BPDC 2.01 – Lorwyn Unleashed

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

An initial turnout of 19 at Monday night’s BPDC Lorwyn event helped take the format out of the cellophane like a pro. Creatures great and small from across the plane turned out to take part in the war, but not every tribe was represented — and there were even some non-tribal monstrosities taking part!

The Monday Mulligan #11: Overdue

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Garfield Monday (2).jpg
A new installment in the Mulligan series is long overdue, so without further non-sense: MM#11!
Yesterday, I got myself my third shiny MPDC Trophy banner, piloting Red Deck Wins and beating JMason with Storm Control in the finals. Reflecting on past winners that haven’t been featured here: v2′s last MPDC winner was ninruin3r with Blue Beats, while v3′s first (and relativily small) event was won by hokusai22 with WW.
Today’s MM puts cRUMMYdUMMY’s Burnt Blink in the Spotlight, click the link and read on!

Silver Lining #2

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Welcome back to another installment of the article glorifying the few, the frustrated, the silver medalists. Welcome, gentle Paupers, to the Silver Lining. This installment shows us how unlucky matches happen to the top decks. Storm Control, Blinkdrifter, and White Weenie all make appearances on this list, as does the perennial bridesmade, mono-red burn.
If you want to see what ALMOST made it happen, by all means… read on.

The Monday Mulligan: Will be back Tuesday!

Furthermore, MPDC needs some help, we are looking for:
Dedicated Data Junkie, Job Components:

Gatherling Metagame Entry; Collecting the metagame (played decks per attendee) during the event (with the help of the attendees themselves and watching games) and inputing the decknames into Gatherling, preferably alongside a couple of cards to indicate colors.

Working the MPDC Season File, which includes posting the win/loss/play-off scores per attendee per event into an excel file (once every week) and posting the calculated Rankings as a response to the MPDC Season 2 Master Document.
I did this myself at the end of last season, but with full blown hosting duties, I’d like some help in this. PM me on the boards or in-game if you want to help out!

Magic Menagerie – Lorwyn Block Decklists!

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Back when the PDC community was preparing for Lorwyn Block the first time around (which was before the format for BPDC was switched to Ravnica Block, which in turn was before the format was switched back to Lorwyn Block), some of my testing partners encouraged someone from our group to make a “gauntlet.” I decided to take up the challenge and proceeded to create more than a couple affectionately-named lists. When I heard that there would be a new season of BPDC, and the format was to be Lorwyn Block, I revisited the decklists I had saved in Magic Workstation and found them to be surprisingly decent, though nowhere near finely tuned. Regardless, I have decided to share a few of them in anticipation of the upcoming BPDC event with the hope that they will inspire more of you to show up with a unique creation of your own (or, if you like a list you see below, with a unique creation of my own).

BPDC Season 2 – Epic Tribal Warfare

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

BPDC Season 2 is coming! BPDC 2.01 kicks off the new season and the new format on Monday, April 28 at 8:30pm EST in /join BPDC. This time around, it’s going to be LORWYN BLOCK PAUPER, which means that only commons from Lorwyn and Morningtide are going to be legal at BPDC during Season 2.
If you’re afraid of a stale metagame, I think you’ll find you’re mistaken. The eight tribes, which I’ve laid out in this article, are just the tip of the deckbuilding iceberg. We haven’t even begun to look at tribal decks based on the five ‘classes’ of Morningtide — Soldier, Wizard, Rogue, Shaman, and Warrior — let alone any truly “rogue” ideas that think outside of the box!
Read on, gentle Pauper, and become inspired to collect and build your very own Lorwyn Block Pauper deck, and join us on April 28 for epic tribal warfare at BPDC 2.01!

The Monday Mulligan #10: Going Dark: Musings

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Garfield Monday (2).jpg
Last Monday was “Screw Up Paradise” for me. You cannot possibly comprehend how many things I did wrong both running DCI-r and playing Grimdrifter. But I must say, keeping 36 (MPDC record, SPDC has only topped that thrice!) players in check is a whole lot of work, expecially with unreported drops, etc. Even after everything was said and done, I still managed to slip again, thinking coolbartbr running Blue Illusion won; but instead stiffdiddypinky won with WW…
Today’s MM will feature an interview with yogev_ezra, who gives answers of Kingritz’ proportions, and it will put Faeries in the Spotlight, it gets some nice Morningtide additions. I’ll also touch on the MTGOIII release that seems to be coming our way, and the great Shadow it will cast over us.
