BPDC 1.03 - Gatherling Does Meta Reports

Here's a link that needs no introduction, but will get one anyway.

This is a fully automated prototype of a Gatherling-fed Metagame Report. WoCo has been busting his rear behind the scenes yet AGAIN to make things easier for the community.

Hosts and players alike, hold onto your butts.

Basically, just become acquainted with the new tools, decide if they will help you do what you're currently doing with greater ease, and if the answer is "yes," use them. If "no," don't. It's that easy.

That barbed tongue is part of my charm. All the lady serpents dig me.

There is no need for a barbed tongue, I was simply going on what the words told me. If this was not your intent, I apologize. However, judging from what you wrote, which is all I had to go one, I made my opinion and voiced it.

Or you can use both?

Ingenious.

eegag, and I quote from your post "If you want to use it, simply ask your participants to post their decklists in Gatherling as opposed to the PRE thread."
That is where I am getting the idea. The term "opposed" denotes to me that one is being favored over the other.

This is actually LESS work than we've been doing.

The host/steward enters his/her event into Gatherling as normal.

The players enter their decks into Gatherling as normal (if this has been done -- BPDC encourages it).

The system AUTOMATICALLY spits this report out.

This completely negates the need for a dedicated "metagame collector," as long as hosts motivate players to use Gatherling to record their decklists. If you, like Gloinoin, find motivating players to use Gatherling to be objectionable, then the host/steward or "metagame collector" will just, as eegag said, post the data into Gatherling rather than a dedicated thread.

It does represent a shift to a more Gatherling-centric metagame report, so if that frightens you, don't change the way you do it.

I suspect, however, that when you see how sweet BPDC makes it look, you'll want to use it too.

I'd like to use it.

Alex, do whatever you want. Nobody is trying to make you post decklists exclusively in Gatherling. Where are you getting that idea?

It is a tool that can be used to provide streamlined metagame reports. If nobody else is interested, then it will be used to provide BPDC's metagame reports. If others would like to take advantage of it, that's great, and they are more than welcome to.

I think having people post decklists here exclusively is a bad move. Having them post decklists on the PRE boards gives exposure to the potential player and shows them decks they can use right off the bat with no further investment. Forcing players to look here for their first deck idea (if they choose to netdeck) could mean a drop off in new players. I really think that migrating away from the PRE boards more than we already have is a bad idea, and not healthy for the format.

The issue with incomplete meta data currently is the result I feel of locked out replays on the weekends. During weekdays or in times when I am able to enter data myself for UPDC, the info always gets completed. I just open a replay of every round 1 match and write down what everyone is playing then enter the names into the database. If players choose to expand beyond simple deckname, good for them but I'm it's not required with my methodology. If you need help getting meta data, ask someone specifically. I find that the /join (x)pdcmeta room is useless; I much rather prefer one person collecting data

Unentered decks go into a category of their own. The last time I saw a report with unentered decks, they were grouped under a 'question mark' symbol.

What happens when we have an incomplete metagame?

eegag

Alex, this is not creating more work for anyone. If you want to use it, simply ask your participants to post their decklists in Gatherling as opposed to the PRE thread. If you simply want the deck names/types, ask your meta data collector to put that data into Gatherling instead of posting a meta data thread. It is no more work, it just gives a better result from the work that is already being done.

If that doesn't seem appealing, keep doing things the way they have been done.

Thank you for providing this to us, but some questions: Who's job is it to enter the data into this tool? How is that person supposed to get the data? Does this person need help entering the data to keep it managable?
Basically, who is this tool creating more work for?
