ALT PDC 1.01 - Metagame Report |
![]() The format was Build You own Standard where players would pick one core set and two blocks and build a deck. Ravnica was the block of the day. The entire top 4 played it and only six people played it total. And what did people use Ravnica for? Well some people used it for silly things like Pillory of Sleeplessness and Scab clan mauler. But the top two players used it for saps. ![]() Coolbartbr used the Saps deck, Spore Cry, that terrorized Ravnica/TSP Standard. 4 Fists of Ironwood Sideboard Running Fortify in place of Kjeldoran War Cry, Coolbartbr cruised into second place until two bad draws doomed his chance of winning the first ALT PDC first event. Nevertheless, his deck is a fearsome one. Boin piloted the winning Saps deck based off X_force_of_will_X’s The Rock and his Millions. 4 Barren Moor Sideboard This deck crushed all opposition going 5-0 in matches and 10-0 in games. Part of what makes the deck so strong is its consistency. Barren Moor helps prevent mana flood and Golgari Rot Farm color screw. Phyrexian Rager while not all that synergetic with the rest of the deck is a solid creature whose card drawing ensures consistency. The sideboard was something that Boin used in only 1 match. It was designed to beat affinity but Boin never faced it. In fact affinity wasn’t played at all in the tournament. Banning the artifact lands appears to be more than enough to stop the Mirrodin block menace. Saps wasn’t the only successful deck. RG aggro top 4ed. And Orzhov Control had success. But it saprolings which had no loses outside a mirror match that really dominated. Next week is a whole new game, with Creature Vacation taking center stage. Will Saprolings win without their creature friends? Will MBC pull out a victory with Corrupt and discard? Or will Freed destroy the competition with infinite mana? Or will another deck come out of the woodwork and steal the day? Tune in next week for more ALT PDC action. 4 CommentsLeave a comment |

It will be interesting to see what diversity we get in deck archetypes. This format is broader than it seems at first blush.

Creature Vacation sounds awesome.

I was convinced that cloak would be the top aggro deck of the format. But only you played and I never faced a single cloak. Instead R/G aggro got to the top 4.

I used it for Ledgewalker and GotG... and Selesnya Sanctuary.
I never once saw Cloak. :(
